UAB Collat School of Business students recently honored four professors with the fourth annual CSOB Teaching Excellence Awards. The teaching awards honor one professor in each academic department and in the graduate program and are voted on by Collat students.

Through the award, students recognize the professors they believe are most impactful in the classroom.

This year’s award recipients were honored at the May all-school meeting.

Congratulations to the following CSOB Teaching Excellence Award winners:

Chen Song opens a new website

Accounting and Finance Department

Song is a senior instructor in the Accounting and Finance Department. She received a master's degree in accounting and information systems from Virginia Polytechnic Institue. She spend more than eight years in public accounting at Ernst & Young LLP and is a registered CPA in Alabama.

Elizabeth Cooper opens a new website

Marketing, Industrial Distribution & Economics Department

Cooper is a senior instructor teaching the BUS 101 (Introduction to Business) and BUS 102 (Business Foundations) courses required of all Collat business majors. She joined the faculty in 2010 and earned her master's degree in business administration from the University of South Alabama.

Scott Boyar, Ph.D. opens a new website

Management, Information Systems & Quantitative Methods Department

Dr. Boyar is a professor of management and teaches courses in leadership, management, and human resources. His areas of expertise include leadership, organizational staffing, turnover, work-family balance, and scale development. He earned the 2015 UAB President's Award for Excellence in Teaching and is a member of the Academy of Management Association, Southern Management Association, and the Society for Human Resource Management.

Jennifer Edmonds, Ph.D. opens a new website

Graduate School of Management

Dr. Edmonds is an associate professor of accounting who teaches MBA 608 (Cost Analysis and Decision Making). She joined the faculty in 2013 after earning her doctrate in accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institue. She earned the Provost Award for Transformative Online Courses in 2023 for engaging online students.
