The MS MIS program is offered fully online. Most students can complete the degree requirements within one and a half years. Concentrations are available in Cyber Security Management and Business Analytics—each of which consists of 12 semester hours.

Have a bachelor's degree in a different field but want to pursue a master’s in management information systems at UAB? Bridge the gap with our online MS MIS bridge program. Students without a background in information systems or computer science are highly encouraged to complete pre-master’s coursework designed to get you up to speed on the knowledge you’ll need to successfully complete the MS MIS program. Courses include IS 204 Business Programming, IS 304 Database Management, IS 303 Information Systems, and more, and you’ll earn an undergraduate certificate in information systems.

UAB Master’s in Management Information Systems Program Requirements
Applicants for the online MS MIS program must have graduated with a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. A minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is also required.
No GMAT/GRE required.
Application Requirements (MS MIS)
- Online application with a $70 application fee or $85 international application fee
- Current resume
- Three letters of recommendation: at least one must be a professional reference
- Personal statement: statement must include the student’s professional applications and how they faced and overcame challenges in their life
- Completed online application
International Applicants (MS MIS)
Additional Documents Required for International Applicants:
- TOEFL IBT score of 80 with a minimum score of 20 in each section or IELTS of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each section or a composite score of 140 on the Duolingo with a minimum of 120 required in all skill areas (international applicants only).

Courses are available 24 hours a day and there are no mandatory site visits or campus classes to attend.

Yes. Students without a bachelor’s degree in management information systems or a related field are strongly encouraged to start off in our bridge program, which provides instruction in database management and systems analysis. Will my diploma say "online?”
No. Your MIS diploma will not distinguish that you are a distance student in our online program. You can be confident that UAB’s standards of excellence are the same for on-campus and online programs. Online students, if they wish, attend the same graduation ceremony as on-campus students.

How long will it take to earn my Master of Science in Management Information Systems degree?
Students can complete their master’s in management information systems (30 credit hours) in as few as three semesters (full-time) or as few as five semesters (part-time).
