Please note:

The UAB MGL has lifted the moratorium on the RNA-based biopsy testing of neurofibroma tumor samples (test code: NF14N). Clinical samples for NF14N testing can now be accepted.

For all cell culture-based testing of CAL spot biopsies (NF14C) or neurofibroma tumor tissue (NF14N), the biopsy sample(s) must be collected in our cell culture media to be viable for testing. Please reach out to our lab at least one week prior to a scheduled biopsy procedure to request the media kit to ensure sufficient time for the kit to arrive before the scheduled date.  To request the required culture media, please complete a kit request here.

Instructions for collecting and shipping CAL spot biopsy specimens can be found here.

Instructions for collecting and shipping neurofibroma tumor specimens can be found here.

Given the complexities of these testing approaches, please contact the MGL if you are considering this test or would like to discuss a specific case.
