Dr. Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts in Physics, with minors in Business Administration and Mathematics, from the University of Mississippi before receiving her medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where she was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of South Alabama and served as an Instructor in the Department of Surgery prior to pursuing fellowship training in breast surgical oncology at Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Smith is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.
A dedicated clinical educator and researcher, Dr. Smith has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, educational surgical videos for the SCORE Portal, and case reports in breast surgical oncology. Her academic interests focus on advancing breast cancer surgery, improving perioperative care, and surgical education. In addition to her published work, she has delivered numerous oral presentations and grand rounds lectures at regional and national meetings on topics including breast cancer surgery, pain management, and complex breast disease.
Dr. Smith is an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Throughout her training, she has served in numerous leadership and educational roles, including the University of South Alabama Residency Selection Committee and Women in Surgery, while remaining committed to community outreach, mentorship, and surgical education.
