We interview approximately 60 applicants each year for our 12 PGY-1 residency positions. While all interested are welcome to apply, the criteria below will be used to select qualified applicants for interviews.
All our residency positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program. Only electronic applications submitted through ERAS are considered.
Apply early to our program. We start scheduling interviews in September and interview October through December. Applications received after we have filled all interview and wait list slots will not be reviewed.
Application Consideration Criteria
Applicants to our program:
- Should have a clear, demonstrated interest in Family Medicine
- Must have graduated from medical school within two years of application.
- Must have USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores above 210 or COMLEX scores above 500, and must have passed with no more than one failure for both steps.
- Should have direct ties to Huntsville, Alabama or the Southeast region.
- Must have successfully passed Step 3 if out of medical school for longer than one year at the time they apply

- Personal statement
- Dean's Letter or Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- Transcripts for medical school and USMLE / COMLEX examinations
- Three recent letters of reference
International Medical Graduates Policies
In addition to the above criteria, International Medical School Graduates must also have at least one letter from a US Physician and must contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for application materials and further eligibility requirements.
While our program no longer sponsors H1B visas, we do gladly accept J1 visas sponsored through the ECFMG.
