Early Medical School Acceptance Program (EMSAP) is an 8-year program that includes 4 years in undergrad at UAB and 4 years in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
Students participate in enriching activities to prepare them for medical school while pursing an undergraduate degree based on their own personal and professional interests. Visit the EMSAP Academics web page to learn more about the program.

Eligibility Requirements
- Acceptance to undergraduate school at UAB before applying to EMSAP
- Minimum high school GPA of 3.5
- Minimum ACT score of 30 or SAT score of 1360
- Attend an Alabama high school or a high school in a contiguous state to Alabama (Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi)
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Application Process
- Review Eligibility. Please review the eligibility requirements before submitting an application.
- Submit the Application. The EMSAP application includes information about your experiences/activities, academic preparation, and your interest in medicine. You will also need to enter the names and email addresses of your letter writers before submitting the application.
- Letters of Recommendation. Two letters of recommendation are required. Your recommenders will receive an email with instructions for uploading their letters to your application file. Your recommenders may include teachers, counselors, employers, or anyone else who can speak to your potential to succeed in EMSAP at UAB. Request your letters well in advance to ensure your letter writers have ample time to submit their letters.
Selection
Interview invitations are extended following a comprehensive review of your application including academic metrics, experiences, and mission-match. The interview includes a traditional one-on-one interview with a member of the admissions committee as well as Multiple Mini Interviews that require the applicant to respond to 8 separate prompts/scenarios. After interviews, the Admissions Selection Committee will review applications and interview ratings to make final decisions by mid-March.
