And by proudly displaying a Mental Health Advocate Badge, you can inspire others to prioritize well-being in their own lives.

Responding to Students in Distress
Learn to be REAL (Recognize, Empathize, Ask, and Link) in supporting mental health for students and the UAB community. Mental Health Facilitator
Mental Health Facilitator
By becoming a Mental Health Facilitator, you can make a meaningful contribution to your colleagues and those in your department with whom you share your knowlege, helping to reduce stigma, promote well-being and foster a culture of care across the UAB community.
There are three Facilitator Learning Paths available — QPR, Vital Cog: Suicide Prevention in the Workplace, and Mental Health First Aid. These Learning Paths not only enhance the participant’s own understanding of the subject matter, but also empower them to create a more supportive and empathetic work environment.
- Eligibility: The Mental Health Facilitator badge is available to all UAB/UAB Medicine faculty, staff and trainees who have earned a Mental Health Fellow badge (see application for full eligibility requirements). Participants must be approved by their immediate supervisor and a director from the Employee Assistance & Counseling Center, Student Counseling Services or the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness.

The Mental Health Peer Responder badge is designed for emergency responders, faculty and staff who want to encourage colleagues after difficult experiences. This badge highlights your commitment to fostering a compassionate and understanding work environment. By earning it, you demonstrate your dedication to promoting a healthier, more resilient community for everyone.
- Eligibility: The Mental Health Peer Responder badge is available to all UAB/UAB Medicine faculty, staff and trainees who are working on campus and in patient or clinical settings, and who have earned a Mental Health Fellow badge.
- Training: Peer Responders must complete the RISE Peer Responder Training or an equivalent peer responder training course. Check the EACC Events Calendar to register for an upcoming session. Upon completion, you will submit an attestation in the Campus Learning System.
