The Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery created the Heroes and Healers Gala in 2024 to celebrate survivors of traumatic injuries and their families, as well as the first responders and healthcare professionals who saved their lives and helped them on their road to recovery.

The event happens in May, which is Trauma Awareness Month.

The night serves as a movie premiere for short films about each trauma survivor honoree. Each honoree is invited to the stage with their support system to say a few words, and everyone in the room who was a part of their care is asked to stand and be recognized. The event closes with a DJ and dancing!

All proceeds from this event go toward the UAB chapter of the Trauma Survivors Network to support programs for trauma survivors and their families.
