Division of Pediatric Surgery

The UAB Division of Pediatric Surgery is committed to training the next generation of pediatric surgeons. We aim to provide all the tools and experience needed to deliver competent and compassionate surgical care to patients and their families in any surgical environment. We have partnered with Children’s of Alabama, our primary training site, a free-standing, 332-bed facility with a 54-bassinet surgical NICU. It is the state’s only Level 1 pediatric trauma center, burn center, and pediatric ECLS center. Our division sponsors a two-year, ACGME-accredited pediatric surgery fellowship. In addition, we also sponsor non-accredited fellowships in pediatric endoscopic surgery and clinical research in pediatric surgery.

Birmingham, Alabama is a terrific place to live, a hidden-gem in the foothills of the Appalachians. Outside of the hospital there are many wonderful opportunities for our fellows and their families to explore. The metro area has outstanding public schools. The city boasts an exceptional food scene with multiple James Beard Award winners, festivals, museums, multiple sports and outdoor activities.
