Wei has edited three textbooks, “Advances in Surgical Pathology: Breast Cancer,” “Atlas of Bone Pathology” and “Frozen Section Library: Bone,” and has contributed to eight monographs.

Wei’s research interests include discovery and evaluation of biomarkers in breast cancer and other malignancies, evaluation of prognostic factors in breast cancer and malignant bone tumors and tumor metastasis. He has over 300 professional writings, including near 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Journal of Clinical Investigation and Modern Pathology.

The endowed professorship honors Dr. Hazel Gore, a pioneer in medicine who served on the faculty for the UAB Departments of Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Gore was one of a select few gynecological pathologists worldwide honored in the journal, Pathology, by Dr. Robert H. Young, Harvard Medical School, for her influence in the development of modern gynecologic pathology. Gore was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame in 2014.
