The UAB Department of Pathology is thrilled to welcome a new faculty member to the Community Practice Pathology Program, directed by Walter Bell, M.D.
Ann Oaks, M.D., joins the department as a clinical professor, effective July 1. Oaks will oversee pathology efforts for UAB Medical West Hospital in Bessemer.
Oaks joins UAB from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist/High Point Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she was a staff pathologist and Medical Laboratory Director for the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Laboratories since 2022. Prior to that role, she was a staff pathologist at North State Pathology Associates in High Point, North Carolina, for 26 years. While there, she served as president of the organization for 11 years.
No stranger to Birmingham, Oaks received her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1991. She completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at North Carolina Baptist Hospital/Wake Forest University in 1996. Oaks served as co-chief resident in 1995.
Oaks is currently a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the North Carolina Medical Society. She has published several journal articles and abstracts, as well as given multiple presentations ranging from cytology to forensics.
