Melad Dababneh M.B.B.S., Assistant Professor, Anatomic Pathology, will serve as section head of Head and Neck Pathology, effective June 1. Dababneh joined the UAB Department of Pathology in 2024 from Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s Robert J. Tomsich Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute where he completed his fellowship in head and neck pathology.
Dababneh received his medical degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology in Ar-Ramtha, Jordan, in 2017, before completing his residency at Emory University School of Medicine. His research interests include head and neck and endocrine pathology, with a focus on salivary gland neoplasms, thyroid neoplasms, molecularly driven epithelial neoplasms and genetic tumor syndrome associations.
Dababneh is a current member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists. He has numerous years of teaching experience and has authored 15 publications.
The Head and Neck Pathology section at UAB offers comprehensive diagnostic services to the university and regional institutions. The Department of Pathology processes about 65,000 cases annually, including 4,500 head and neck cases. Faculty collaborate with Surgical Oncology, Otolaryngology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, handling a wide range of biopsy and resection materials.
