The Alternative Master of Arts program in Early Childhood Special Education is designed for individuals who have an undergraduate degree in a field other than education and do not currently hold teacher certification. This program prepares students to work with young children with delays or disabilities and their families in a variety of settings (early intervention, preschool, or K-3 settings). Students who successfully complete the AMP will earn a master’s degree in education and be eligible for Class A certification in their specific teaching field.

Coursework takes a minimum of 39 semester hours to complete and includes courses in early intervention and preschool curriculum and methods, physical and health care support, communication facilitation, and technology applications as well as a practicum. Admissions Requirements

To be considered for admission to the early childhood special education program, applicants must meet the AMP admission requirements and attend an AMP information session.

The program accepts applications to begin study in the fall, spring, and summer terms.
