nicu donation drive 2025Throughout the summer, the UAB Staff Council Community Outreach Committee led a donation drive for the UAB Department of Pediatrics Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The project was in partnership with the Heersink School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics’ Staff Wellness and Recognition Council. The donations received will support families spending long hours at the hospital and stock the parents’ lounge with items of care.

Together the council collected 731 items.

  • 583 snacks
  • 92 pieces of clothing
  • 39 books
  • 14 blankets
  • 30 bibs and washcloths

Jarvis Jones and Debbie Morgette (pictured), co-chairs of the Community Outreach Committee, spread the word at committee and council meetings about this initiative's impact.

“The NICU project was a beautiful reminder of how small acts of kindness can bring comfort in big ways,” Jones says. “Together, we were able to collect books, clothing, onesies, snacks, bibs, and other items for the UAB Department of Pediatrics NICU. It was inspiring to see our group come together to support families and staff in such a meaningful way. Community is about lifting each other up when it matters most.”
