Dr. KopeckyUAB Division of Surgical Oncology Assistant Professor Kimberly Kopecky, M.D., MSCI, has been chosen as a recipient of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Faculty Research Fellowship. The ACS research fellowship will begin in July 2025 and continue through July 2027, with an annual stipend of $40,000.

The award will provide funding for her research effort, and Dr. Kopecky will present her findings at the ACS Clinical Congress in 2027 at the conclusion of the fellowship. Dr. Kopecky has previously received other grants, including the Society of Surgical Oncology Young Investigator Award.

Kopecky has been actively involved with the ACS and is a member of the ACS Committee on Surgical Palliative Care. She recently co-moderated the symposium on research in the field of surgical palliative care.

“The funding will allow me to further improve and expand my line of patient-centered research in surgical decision-making,” said Kopecky.

About the ACS Faculty Research Fellowship

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Faculty Research Fellowship evaluates candidate applications on the importance, originality, preliminary data, and study design of the listed projects.The Faculty Research Fellowship aims to fund and support the research initiatives of early-career faculty members working full-time in a surgical department.
