The UAB Department of Surgery General Surgery Residency Program has started the new academic year, welcoming nine new trainees to the department and celebrating the graduation of its chief residents.

This year's incoming class arrives from institutions across the United States and abroad, joining the program in categorical, preliminary, and integrated tracks. Incoming residents joining the program include:

As the new interns arrive, the program also celebrates its graduating chief residents, who are advancing into fellowships and specialized practice after completing their training. “Every summer we say hello and goodbye in the same breath, and both sides of that are meaningful. Our incoming residents bring with them new energy and a wide range of experiences that make the whole program stronger. Guiding trainees from their first day as interns to their last day as chief residents is the most rewarding part of what we do, and it is a responsibility this department takes seriously,” said UAB General Surgery Program Director Britney Corey, M.D., MACM.
