Each year, the UAB Service Awards recognize employees who have reached significant service milestones of five years or more. Employees with 20-plus years of service were additionally recognized at a Service Awards reception on April 8. The Department of Radiation Oncology had two awardees who were honored for serving 35 and 20 years.
Please join us in congratulating Sharon Spencer, M.D., professor, senior medical and quality advisor, and Ruby Meredith Outstanding Clinician Endowed Chair, on an outstanding 35 years of dedicated service.
"I am fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to work with such caring and scholarly teammates,” Spencer said. “Our work is definitely a team effort, which has been led by outstanding leaders such as Dr. Jim Bonner. Many years ago, I believed that technology would take us to the next level in cancer care, and that is just what we are experiencing now. The explosion of technical advancements and the options that will be available for patients in the near future are incredibly exciting. I am grateful for our support staff, the greeters at the front doors, and the outstanding members who keep our spaces clean and tidy. I am most definitely proud to be a part of this spectacular organization".
Please join us in congratulating Xingen Wu, M.D., associate professor, on an impressive 20 years of commitment to UAB.
"I have been very lucky to work with a great team with world-renowned radiation oncologists and medical physicists by using the most advanced technologies in the world to precisely and efficiently to treat patients with all kinds of cancers,” Wu said. “I am very proud of being a member of the UAB Radiation Oncology family. "
