Karen Weeks, psychometrist in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, has been selected as one of the 2025 Patient Experience Heroes. She was nominated by team members in PM&R’s Division of Rehabilitation Psychology for the way she connects with her patients.

“Over the past year and a half, Karen has become an integral part of the psychology team as a seasoned psychometrist that knows just the right words to put patients at ease when undergoing hours of neuropsychological testing,” says Casey Azuero, Ph.D., MPH, Division of Rehabilitation Psychology Director.” I am hopeful that shedding a spotlight on Karen will encourage others to do as she does and share small acts of kindness that make someone else’s day just a little easier or a little brighter because that is what she does for all of us.”

The UAB Office of Patient Experience presents this award each year during Patient Experience Week to honor employees who go above and beyond to prioritize patient care. Nominees are selected for embodying core values and delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
