november spotlight 1The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics is proud to highlight Rhiannon Jennings, registered nurse with the Department of Pediatrics Primary Care Clinic.

Jennings has been with the department for three years and says the people and the patients are a big part of what makes her work meaningful. “I enjoy my peers and the patients we see in the clinic. It is so joyful to see all of our little ones come to the clinic and be able to watch them grow,” said Jennings.

She describes her job in one word: compassionate. Her day-to-day role includes giving vaccines, following up with concerned parents, completing paperwork, triaging and assisting with patient scheduling as needed. Still, her favorite part of the job is the children she serves. “Our patients! Baby giggles, little kids showing you how cool their stickers are or their new book or talking to teens about their aspirations when they go to college,” said Jennings.

Outside of work, Jennings enjoys crocheting, a hobby that brings both relaxation and meaning. Taught by her grandmother, she says the craft helps her unwind and gives her a creative outlet to make things by hand.

When it comes to local favorites, Jennings recommends Shelley’s, an ice cream shop and taqueria on Pinson Valley Parkway. She says the street tacos, tortas and salsa bar make it a must-try spot.

Jennings is also celebrating a major milestone as she prepares to graduate from UAB with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Earning this degree marks an exciting next step in her nursing career and reflects her dedication to continuous growth and learning.
