ilonze chibuzo 2021 webThe University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics is proud to announce that Chibuzo Ilonze, M.D., MPH, assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, has been selected to serve as an ambassador for the American Society of Hematology (ASH).

ASH is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to the study and treatment of blood and bone marrow disorders. ASH works to advance the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of conditions such as anemia, leukemia, lymphoma and clotting disorders. Through its research initiatives, educational programs and advocacy, ASH promotes high-quality, equitable care while fostering innovation and training the next generation of hematology professionals.

“Engaging trainees early and providing hands-on learning experiences is key to inspiring the next generation of hematologists,” said Ilonze. “By collaborating with ASH ambassadors at medical institutions across the country, I hope to help cultivate and develop the leaders of the future.”

In this role, Ilonze will help inspire and mentor future physicians, guiding students to explore the possibilities of hematology. His appointment reflects the Department of Pediatrics’ strong commitment to advancing education, research and mentorship at UAB, ensuring trainees are prepared to become leaders in medicine.
