The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professor Satoru Osuka, M.D., Ph.D, has been promoted to associate professor.
Before joining UAB in 2019, Osuka earned both his medical degree from the University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki, Japan. He then completed neurosurgical postdoctoral fellowships with the Keio University Division of Gene Regulation in Tokyo, Japan and with the Emory University Department of Neurosurgery in Atlanta, Georgia. His research investigates the cellular and molecular biology of adaptive therapeutic resistance in brain tumors, with the goal of developing novel immunotherapy treatments for patients.
Osuka started his independent laboratory within the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2022, furthering his research interest in therapeutic resistance of malignant brain tumors. Since then, Osuka’s research has received multiple competitive grants and recognition from esteemed publications such as Neuro-Oncology, one of the leading journals in the brain tumor field.
As an associate professor, Osuka will continue both his groundbreaking neuro-oncology research and his mentorship of students.
