A new endowed scholar position in the UAB Department of Neurology has been established thanks to a generous gift. The Susan and Rodney Barstein Endowed Faculty Scholar in Parkinson’s Disease, named in recognition of donors Susan and Rodney Barstein, serves to support a faculty member in the Department of Neurology whose specific focus is Parkinson’s disease.
This endowed scholar position serves as an intermediate step to creating an endowed professorship aimed at recruiting and retaining an expert faculty member in Parkinson’s disease, with a preference for work being done in neuromodulation.
"Our contribution to UAB reflects our commitment to supporting innovative research in DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) that will ultimately lead to a cure for Parkinson’s disease," The Barstein's said. "We believe that through research, challenges faced by individuals and families affected by this disease will be minimized and/or eliminated in the future."
