Tawny Fowler is a Data Verification Specialist for the Enrollment Management team. She has been a member of Admissions and Enrollment Management since 2021 and has worked at UAB since 2014. She was nominated to the 2025-2026 cohort of Medical Education Unsung Heroes by Faye Heard, senior director for Enrollment Management.

“Tawny single-handedly accomplishes so much behind the scenes,” Heard said. “Students may not know her by name, but they know the impact she has.”

Fowler oversees the records for Heersink School of Medicine students and alumni. A primary aspect of her work is organizing the documents for graduating students, which includes uploading information for residency match; confirming graduation status; ordering, copying, proofing, and shipping diplomas; and confirming information for graduation program. She is also tasked with overseeing official medical student transcripts, and once students have graduated, she compiles their state licensure forms. Heard notes that the way she completes this work with speed and efficiency, it’s like the work of a magic fairy.

Fowler’s direct supervisor, Laura Stultz, Ph.D., program director and registrar for Records and Registration, also highlights her impact on the team. “On the Records team, she updates student data to outside organizations such as AAMC, NBME, and USMLE and oversees the digitization of our older paper files, maintaining all the records for current and former students. Tawny is also an outstanding artist and master of completing challenging jigsaw puzzles!”
