Crystal Burney is an office associate for the Office of Access and Engagement – Medical Student Experience. She joined the OAE team in March 2025 after serving as Lead Clinical Administrative Office Specialist for the UAB Health Services Foundation. She was nominated to the 2025-2026 cohort of Medical Education Unsung Heroes by Erica Brown, Ph.D., program manager for the Office of Access and Engagement – Medical Student Experience.
“Crystal has done an outstanding job bringing organization, consistency, and warmth to the Office of Access & Engagement,” Brown said.
According to Brown, her commitment to learning new skills and taking ownership over critical aspects of the office has made her an invaluable addition to the team. “Her professionalism shines through in every task she undertakes, and her eagerness to learn new skills continues to elevate our office’s effectiveness. Crystal has also taken a leading role in organizing and managing the OAE content and announcements for newsletters, ensuring our communications are timely, polished, and engaging.”
Brown notes that success comes not only from Burney’s initiative and drive, but also from the presence she brings to their space, which makes a lasting impact. Brown adds that, whether working with students or colleagues, Burney has become a trusted support structure thanks to her positive attitude and welcoming nature.
“We are truly fortunate to have Crystal as part of the OAE team at the Heersink School of Medicine,” Brown said. “Her contributions strengthen our mission every day.”
