The UAB Department of Surgery is excited to welcome two new faculty members in the month of November 2025: Drs. Eliot Gagne and Lauren Theiss Gleason.
Eliot Gagne, M.D., has joined the UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery as a clinical assistant professor. He is also an active-duty surgeon with the United States Air Force Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST), based out of UAB.
 
Before coming to UAB, Dr. Gagne was a general surgeon at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), University Medical Center, and the Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center. Prior to that, he was a general surgeon at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) and the David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base.
Dr. Gagne earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine. He then completed his surgical internship at UC Davis and his general surgery residency at UNLV.
 
Lauren Theiss Gleason, M.D., MSPH, will serve as an assistant professor in the UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery and co-director of the Women in Surgery Committee. Dr. Gleason completed her medical degree at the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine and, afterwards, matriculated to the UAB General Surgery Residency. During her time in residency, she received numerous clinical awards. After residency, she completed her fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Gleason is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Her major research interests include health literacy, patient engagement technologies, and novel interventions for the improvement of health outcomes.
