UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC) scientist Kirk Habegger, Ph.D., is featured in the Diabetes Spotlight in the May 2025 issue of Diabetes, the flagship research publication of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). 

Habegger is an associate professor of medicine in the UAB Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and is also a scientist in the UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center. 

A new feature in the longstanding journal, Diabetes Spotlight is a short profile that introduces readers to members of the diabetes research community who are contributing to the scientific mission and the journal as authors, editors, or awardees. Habegger serves as an associate editor on the Diabetes editorial board.

May’s spotlight traces Habegger’s roots in the Midwest with interests in sports and science to his research lab at UAB, where he studies the impact of the hormone glucagon on metabolic processes. 

In addition to highlighting Habegger’s research interests in glucagon biology, the profile shines a light on his personal interests in cycling and music and details his latest role as cohost of DiabetesBio, the monthly podcast for Diabetes.
