Last year, the Department of Medicine launched its Faculty Development program to provide comprehensive support and resources for faculty at all stages of their careers.
Designed and led by Dr. Lisa Willett, the program is grounded in a formal needs assessment survey, and it responds to the expressed needs of faculty for more opportunities to grow in their careers. Willett intentionally created the program to be relevant, sustainable and accessible, providing true value to all DOM faculty. Best practices from peer institutions and scholarly publications were incorporated to ensure the program meets high standards of faculty development.
Dr. Stan Massie has joined the program as Faculty Director and Lisa Jinright provides administrative support. Together, the Faculty Development team has achieved the following:
- Hosted 17 Faculty Development Seminars on topics including promotion, research, mentorship, clinical educator scholarship, leadership, and clinical effectiveness.
- Graduated six faculty members from the eight-session TEACH DOM program, which focused on enhancing participants’ skills as educators, strengthening their ability to analyze clinical instruction, and encouraging peer discussion around teaching challenges and best practices.
- Enhanced onboarding for new faculty by:
- Providing updated welcome packets to all new hires
- Conducting one-on-one welcome interviews with 20 faculty members, led by the Faculty Development director or DOM vice chair
- Standardizing onboarding for four new or interim division directors
- Expanded access to faculty development resources by making content available online.
The DOM Faculty Development Team is excited to continue building on this momentum and look forward to sharing new updates and insights in the year ahead.
