Our Faculty Development Program is designed to provide comprehensive support and resources for Department of Medicine faculty at all levels of their careers.

Our program is designed to be relevant, sustainable, and accessible, providing true value to all DOM faculty. We also incorporate best practices from peer institutions and scholarly publications to ensure our program meets the highest standards of faculty development.

Promotion and Tenure
Promotion of rank (from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor to Professor) and the Award of Tenure involves evaluation of your promotion packet materials by the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure Committee (APTC). The entire process involves a sequential review by three tiers: the Department of Medicine (DOM), followed by the Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM), and finally the Office of the Provost. Each level of review and evaluation has helpful information and links to resources below, including how to structure your CV in the standardized HSOM format.

- Teach DOM: We offer a longitudinal curriculum annually to enhance teaching skills for early-career clinician educators.

- Dream Council: The DREAM (DOM Research Excellence Advancement and Mentoring) Council plays a key role in advancing early-career faculty. The Council provides prestigious departmental awards, service opportunities, mentorship, professional development resources, and a community of research scientists.

Clinical
DOM faculty actively engage in virtually every aspect of clinical care. Clinical operations are managed within each division, so please contact your divisional leadership with specific questions about clinical care. Women in Medicine
Women in Medicine (WIM) provides interactive sessions on topics important to women in medicine. We share challenges and solutions, offer mentorship, and build community. We meet quarterly, and all who are interested are welcome to attend.

Cohorts
We offer cohort experiences such as Leadership DOM (LDOM), Teach DOM (TDOM), and a GME Bootcamp. These longitudinal sessions delve into specific topics over several months, ensuring a deep understanding and fostering a community of learning among participants. The longitudinal experiences typically have an application and selection process.
TEACH DOM
TEACH DOM is a longitudinal curriculum designed to enhance teaching skills for early career clinician educators. The curriculum will be delivered in a series of small group seminars from February to May. The focus is on small group teaching, but some aspects will also apply to didactic teaching.
- Target Audience: Early career clinician educators (Assistant Professors) involved in inpatient and/or outpatient teaching with learners, including fellows, residents, medical students, and allied health professionals.
- Program Goal: Enhance teaching skills in small group clinical settings (clinic/hospital).
- Program Objectives: (specifically, the seminars are designed to): Enhance participants' versatility as teachers; enhance their ability to analyze clinical teaching using an educational framework; provide a forum for collegial exchange about teaching challenges and best practices
- Format: Small group
- Timing: Eight sessions held on Thursdays, 1-3 p.m. (February to May)
