UAB School of Dentistry creates new strategic framework to advance oral health
After months of planning and stakeholder input, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry (SOD) has launched a new strategic plan, Advancing Oral Health. Designed through a comprehensive and collaborative approach, its framework aligns with UAB's Forging Ahead five-year strategic plan for 2024-2028 and aims to improve lives locally and globally.
SOD salutes the many members of the military who have passed through our halls
Since its earliest days, the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry has had a strong connection with the military. In fact, all 50 members of the inaugural SOD graduating class in 1952 were veterans.
Global research from the UAB School of Dentistry continues to impact oral health care
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry consistently ranks among the top National Institutes of Health-funded dental schools in the United States. Centered on five core themes, its transformative dental research combines academic excellence with scientific methodology to discover answers to cutting-edge questions and improve oral health care for residents in Alabama and beyond. Five new research projects will allow UAB to continue making new discoveries and advance science to benefit oral health locally and globally.
New state-of-the-art clinic planned for Decatur to help continue to address Alabama’s dental crisis
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry plans to bring a new satellite clinic to Decatur, Alabama, in 2026 to serve patients in the northern part of the state. The Decatur clinic will recruit, educate, train and retain dentists to help improve the dental health of those living in rural north Alabama. The clinic will be housed at Decatur Morgan Hospital’s Parkway Campus located at 1874 Beltline Road SW, pending the approval of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.

UAB Dentistry re-launches dental clinic to address critical needs of older adults
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry has re-launched a unique dental clinic within the Fair Haven Retirement Community and Campus to provide essential dental care tailored specifically for senior adults. The only one of its kind in the state, the clinic satisfies dual purposes: to address the unique oral health needs of older adults and to engage future dentists in the care of medically complex patients. The clinic offers comprehensive services, from routine cleanings to complex prosthetic care, utilizing contemporary digital radiography, imaging and scanning capabilities.
