Fur babies, family portraits and cards for humanity: check out our photographers’ favorite photos from last month.
“I loved covering the hospital toy drive this year, where hundreds of bikes and toys get donated to kids in need. I loved this shot I got of the bikes being loaded into the truck. The silhouette worked perfectly in this situation. Finding new and interesting angles is always the way I want to go into covering events. Try to get amongst the action and tell the story from all areas you have access to.” — Ian Logue, university photographer
“I recently had the absolute joyful experience of photographing our UAB K-9 Officers, Dolly and Daks, and their delightful handlers, Officer Henderson and Officer Sellers. In this photo, Officer Henderson allowed Dolly a little play time with her favorite toy, a Chuck It ball. It's nice to see that it's not all work for these fur babies.” — Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
“Dr. Kimberly Kopecky created The Empathy Project game as a way to help her surgical residents improve their interpersonal skills with patients and their loved ones. I wanted to show off the game and provide a cue that its subject matter is medical. This close up of the cards with surgical lights in the background accomplishes that nicely.”— Andrea Mabry, senior university photographer
“The Center for Teaching and Learning invited us to photograph one of their interactive sessions in December. I like this image because of how these faculty are engaged in conversation and the way the artificial light is mimicking window light so effortlessly.”— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
“I enjoyed this commencement shoot I did with Brittany Nicole Stewart and her family outside of University Hall. They are a beautiful family and even though it was really cold, her little one was a trooper and gave her best smile for the camera! Commencement shoots are always fun because it is so important to celebrate the achievement that it is.” — Ian Logue, university photographer
“In December I got to cover a visit to Sterne Library from Hand in Paw, which gives students a chance to interact with therapy dogs during their stressful study time before finals. I loved this shot where the therapy dog, Mack, is looking thrilled to be getting so much love and attention. He was even posing perfectly while looking into my camera!” — Ian Logue, university photographer
"Students make the most wonderful models for our marketing campaigns. This photo is from a series about the healthy limits of screen time. Our location was University Hall; I like its contemporary style and the fun variety of greens in the background."— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
