“I love the facial expressions and body language in this staged photo of Dr. Rachel Smith, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Neuroengineering Program, working in her lab with Neuroengineering Ph.D. student Caila Coyne. “I photographed the UAB Police flag football practice as they prepared to compete in the 2025 World Police & Fire Games, which were held in Birmingham from from June 27-July 6. I will be the first to admit I know close to nothing about sports, but even I recognize a victory leap when I see one!” — Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
“This photo of Jenna Reynolds at Gus's Hot Dogs on 4th Avenue North, eating a Special Dog with the requisite Grapico and Golden Flake sweet heat barbecue chips, makes me want to visit Gus's for a special dog immediately. Reynolds, instructor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Literature, teaches a course called Eating in Birmingham in which students visit notable restaurants around the city as part of the Blazer Core Curriculum's City as Classroom focus.” — Andrea Mabry, university photographer

Dolly and Officer Henderson v1
“On one very warm June afternoon I had the pleasure of photographing UAB’s K-9 Officer Dolly and her handler, Officer Marvin Henderson, on the Campus Green. It was all I could do to keep from playing with Dolly, but I kept it professional! Dolly is a beautiful, sleek German Shorthaired Pointer.” — Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer

Dolly and Officer Henderson, v2
"I had the pleasure of meeting UAB's new police K-9, Dolly, and she is a wonderful professional. She is a complete sweetheart who loves her kong toy and is so good at her job. Officer Marvin Henderson is her handler and they make a great pairing. Fun fact: Dolly was born in Croatia.” — Ian Logue, university photographer
"Don't be fooled by the smiling faces, it was boiling hot during this shoot. We shot out on the Campus Green during one of the hotter days in June to showcase ways to stay cool in the Alabama summer!” — Ian Logue, university photographer

"We photographers in the Marketing and Communications department take on various assignments to produce stock photography, which allows us to support our unique UAB community and their diverse needs of imagery, for annual reports, lesson plans and medical staff training, just to name a few. This particular shoot's purpose was to highlight the care a patient receives from a UAB Primary Care physician."— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
