UAB’s performance evaluation cycle for 2025 opens July 1. Employees must submit self-evaluations, have conversations with managers, and managers must complete evaluations by Sept. 30. Eligible full-time (01) and part-time (03) regular-status employees in Workforce Group A will complete self-evaluations in the UAB Perform App; all faculty evaluations will continue to be uploaded into the UAB Perform App.
Performance management at UAB is an ongoing process where managers and employees assess job performance, set goals and action plans, and recognize achievement. UAB Human Resources continuously strives to improve this process based on employee feedback from past year cycles. In preparation for the 2025 cycle, the UAB Perform App has been updated to comply with ADA Title II accessibility standards, ensuring a more navigable and user-friendly experience.
The goals section of the app now allows managers to export their team's goals to a spreadsheet, and employees have the option to delete obsolete goals from their dashboard. To delete, the goal must be in an open, editable status.
UAB Learning & Development is offering three instructor-led training programs to assist employees and managers during the 2025 performance evaluation cycle:
For staff:
- Performance Evaluation: Staff Making the Most of Your Review covers UAB’s overall strategy for performance management and the annual evaluation action steps, as well as self-assessment and preparation tips for a successful two-way conversation.
- Virtual sessions: July 23, 1:30-3 p.m. ; Aug. 6, 1:30-3 p.m.; Sept. 4, 10-11:30 a.m.
- In-person sessions (MT 419A): July 31, 9-11 a.m.; Aug. 27, 1-3 p.m.
- Feedback for Impact (formerly Making Feedback Work for You) supports employees in developing their feedback skillset (specifically providing and receiving). Participants will learn simple strategies for framing their feedback and apply them to a case study.
- Virtual Sessions: July 15, 9:30-11 a.m.; Aug. 21, 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 16, 1-2:30 p.m.
- In-person session (MT 419A): Aug. 20, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
For managers:
- Performance Evaluation: Planning and Conversations for Managers covers UAB’s overall strategy for Performance Management; includes planning, feedback, conversation recommendations and action steps to submit an annual evaluation form.
- Virtual sessions: July 15, 1-2:30 p.m. ; Aug. 28, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.; Sept. 9, 1:30-3 p.m.
- In-person sessions (MT 419A): July 29, 9-11 a.m.; Aug. 12, 1-3 p.m.
