UAB and UAB Medicine employees will receive extra holidays at the end of the 2026 calendar year.
In recognition of the importance of rest, renewal and meaningful time with loved ones, UAB and UAB Medicine are pleased to announce additional paid holidays added to the 2026 calendar for eligible employees.
In addition to the standard holidays observed on Dec. 25, 2026, and Jan. 1, 2027, the following dates have been designated as additional paid holidays:
- Employees in all Workgroups (A, F and C) will observe closures on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, 2026.
Essential employees of UAB Medicine, UAB Police, UAB Call Center and units that receive personal holidays in lieu of designated holidays will have additional holiday hours credited to their holiday banks. Employees in these areas are encouraged to consult with their supervisors regarding staffing and scheduling expectations during the holiday period.
UAB remains dedicated to supporting the well-being of its faculty and staff by providing paid time away from work to help individuals recharge and focus on what matters most.
“Time away from work is essential for sustaining personal well-being and professional excellence,” said UAB Chief Human Resources Officer Janet May. “President Ray Watts and Health System CEO Dawn Bulgarella continue to prioritize our people, and these additional holidays reflect our shared commitment to ensuring employees have meaningful opportunities to recharge and return refreshed for the year ahead.”
This initiative reinforces UAB’s ongoing commitment to employee well-being and work-life balance and reflects the university’s role as a supportive, people-centered, and forward-thinking workplace.
As with all UAB holidays, most campus operations will be suspended, while essential services will continue. The full UAB holiday schedule is available online.
