Established in April 1999, the Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE) is committed to the professional development and success of postdoctoral scholars. At UAB, over 300 postdocs train in a variety of disciplines such as engineering, medicine, natural sciences, public health, nursing, and optometry.
Our mission is to empower the postdoctoral community through professional and career development opportunities that will allow them to reach their potential. We also serve as a resource for faculty mentors and their departments. Opportunities provided to our postdocs include:
- Workshops focused on postdoctoral grant writing and career transitioning
- Awards for career enhancement, travel, grant submissions, and internships
- Competitive salary and benefits
- Networking through events such as the annual Diving into Your Career Summer Series and Postdoc Research Day
- Leadership through postdoctoral associations
Through feedback and collaboration with the Postdoctoral Association and Black Postdoctoral Association, groups run by postdocs for postdocs, OPE strives to stay engaged with the postdoctoral community and meet the needs of our scholars.
