In 2014, the Daniel Foundation of Alabama partnered with the UAB School of Nursing to launch the Graduate Nursing Education Primary Care Scholars (GENPCS) Initiative. Through their generous support, the School advanced a key strategic priority: improving health care access and outcomes for all Alabamians.

This initiative paved the way for a specialized program that prepares nurse practitioners to lead in rural primary care settings. Its core goals include:

  • Providing focused training for nurse practitioners serving underserved, rural populations in Alabama.
  • Supporting the continued development of practicing nurse practitioners.

As part of this effort, monthly webinars were offered for professional development. Topics were shaped by feedback from community partners and evolved to meet emerging needs. These sessions were delivered live and archived for flexible access by nurse practitioners and students.
