Jennifer Kilgo, Ph.D., professor of early intervention/early childhood special education in the UAB School of Education, recently gave a keynote speech to the United Nations Family Committee in New York.
Kilgo spoke to a crowd of educators, dignitaries and child advocates from around the world on “International Perspectives on Family-Focused, Evidence-Based Practices for Young Children.” Kilgo offered lessons from the work she has done with children and families with special needs in hopes that these practices can be implemented internationally.
“This can affect children of the world,” she says. “I am completely honored.”
Also, the fourth edition of the book Kilgo co-authored with UAB colleague Richard Gargiulo, Ph.D., An Introduction to Young Children with Special Needs: Birth Through Age Eight, will be released in January. The book is widely used by educators around the country.
