Neurons in the brain create a complex circuitry that regulates various cognitive and behavioral functions.

Despite more than a century of extensive research, the mechanisms behind brain function and behavior remain incompletely understood. However, advancements in cutting-edge research techniques have allowed basic neurobiology research to thrive, yielding unprecedented data and models for a deeper understanding of the brain.

Our faculty employs a diverse array of experimental and analytical tools, including molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, electrophysiology, behavioral assays, intravital imaging, histology, and machine learning, applied across multiple animal models and in humans. The ultimate goal of these studies is to enhance our understanding of brain function in both physiological and pathological conditions, which can lead to improved treatment options.

Our faculty in this area study the impact of obesity on brain health and the contribution of brain circuitry to energy homeostasis and proximal diseases like type II diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
