Greetings, and thank you for your interest in PSDO 230, the Physician Experience. This course is intended to provide unique exposure to what it means to be a physician in an effort to allow you to make a more informed decision on your future in medicine and science. Because of limited seating availability there is an application associated with acceptance into this class.
You will notice the application is not short. Part of this is to get a better idea of the applicant and whether they are qualified, but much of this is being collected to better understand who participates in the class and where they go in the future. Those of us administering this class, and UAB as an undergraduate and medical institution are vested in understanding how best to facilitate our learners’ success. We appreciate your patience and efforts completing the application below.
One component of the application is a personal statement. Anything that does not fit onto 1 single-spaced, 1 inch margin, Arial font 11 page will not be read. Please tell us: Who you are, What you think you want to do in life, and How this class would help you get there.
Finally, a reference form will be sent to your professional reference based on your information submitted on the application. This document is a brief form to be filled out on your behalf by course faculty, research mentor or extracurricular advisor, someone that can speak to your aptitude and/or commitment towards science and medicine. You will need to have at least 1 document submitted, we will not accept more than 2.
Applications will be reviewed and course participants will be determined at the discretion of the course administrator(s). Again, we thank you for your interest.
