Speech Pathology Student Observership

Program Overview

Observation opportunities are conducted within the Department of Otolaryngology in the Kirklin Clinic of UAB. The student may obtain observation in the following specialty areas:

• Voice & Upper Airway
• Botox Clinic
• Facial Nerve Clinic
• Lymphedema Clinic
• Head and Neck Clinic

Observation experiences may include:

• Videostroboscopy
• Voice evaluations and therapy
• Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS)
• Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
• Clinical swallowing evaluations
• Tracheo-esophageal Prosthesis (TEP) management
• Pre-operative counseling
• Treatment counseling
• Interdisciplinary facial nerve clinic services
• Lymphedema management
