The Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at UAB is a one-year program located in Birmingham, Alabama. The subspecialty training is designed to provide extensive exposure to the evaluation and management of both primary and revision hip and knee replacement.

The primary goal of the fellowship is to prepare surgeons for a career as adult reconstruction surgeons, covering the spectrum of straightforward primary joint replacements to complex revisions. During the fellowship, the fellow will be able to experience superior hands-on training alongside dedicated and enthusiastic faculty in a mentorship model. Fellow autonomy and independence in the operating room will also be a focus of this fellowship.

The program includes 12 months of clinical work; time will be spent between surgeons at UAB and private practice surgeons in Birmingham. While on these services, you work one-on-one with a member of our adult lower extremity reconstructive faculty to perform preoperative consultations, participate actively in surgical procedures, and are directly involved in postoperative patient management.

In addition to clinical training, you will be an active leader in specialty-specific education, including case conferences, journal clubs, and technical cadaver lab experiences. The fellow will also have ample opportunity for development and completion of clinical research projects. Through the fellowship, you will also have the opportunity to attend AAHKS, CCJR, and AAOS. Overall, the fellowship is designed to provide flexibility in setting you on a path to achieve your career aspirations.
