The UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Section is comprised of leading faculty in the field of sports medicine orthopaedics.

Our faculty work directly with UAB Sports & Exercise Medicine, which specializes in the evaluation, management, rehabilitation, and prevention of injury and disorders in patients of all ages. Our providers have years of experience treating high school, collegiate, and professional and adaptive athletes, and use those same skills when treating weekend warriors or those at any level of experience. Our department residents get to work alongside our faculty in the operating room and on the field. Our affiliations with the athletic teams at UAB and local high schools allow residents the opportunity to treat patients from high school students to elite division-one and professional athletes.

Our section faculty are consistently publishing leading research in the field of sports medicine. Through the department’s Orthopaedic Surgery Research Program, researchers also can learn directly from our Sports Medicine Section faculty. Researchers can engage in projects that range from isolated case reports to prospective randomized multicenter studies, with any sports topics being potential study domains.

Fellows in our Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship benefit from comprehensive surgical training in the management of sports-related injuries, emphasizing advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures. Throughout the fellowship, they provide operative care to athletes at all levels, including high school, collegiate, and professional teams.
