The Department of Neurobiology is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashley Tarrant, MPH, as JHS Administrative Director II.
Tarrant brings more than 15 years of experience in public health and healthcare administration to her new role. A proud graduate of the University of Alabama, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2007, followed by a Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health and International and Global Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009.
Tarrant has continued to expand her professional expertise through national leadership development programs, including the UCLA Anderson School of Management Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Executive Program, the American College of Healthcare Executives Senior Executive Program, and the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business New Strategies Symposium.
She most recently served as Chief Operations Officer at Alabama Regional Medical Services (ARMS), where she oversaw operations for a health center system serving uninsured and underinsured individuals, including those experiencing homelessness and residents of public housing.
Prior to this, she worked extensively in HIV care within Alabama, where she presented at state and national conferences. Additionally, she has served on multiple national grant and abstract review committees across a range of public health areas, including adolescent and maternal health, HIV care, and workforce development.
Tarrant is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Health Services Executives, where she currently serves as Co-Chair of the Mentorship Committee for the Alabama Chapter.
Looking back on her journey with UAB, Tarrant shared, “UAB is home! I participated in the SMEP program at the School of Medicine in 2005; I completed my graduate studies at the UAB School of Public Health in 2009, and my first professional role was as a Unit Coordinator in Labor & Delivery (Women and Infant Services) from 2007-2010. UAB has always been on the cutting edge of research and medicine, and I am so proud to come home and play a part in that success.”
