Lee Timmy 700 1000As Director of the Division of Nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), I am proud to introduce you to one of the nation's leading academic nephrology programs. Our mission is driven by a commitment to excellence in clinical care, research innovation, and education and training.

Our division provides comprehensive, patient-centered care across the full spectrum of kidney disease, including chronic kidney disease, glomerular disorders, hypertension, dialysis, and transplantation. We serve a diverse patient population through our partnership with UAB Medicine—one of the largest academic medical centers in the Southeast—as well as our dedicated outpatient clinics. Our physicians and multidisciplinary care teams are recognized for their expertise, compassion, and dedication to improving patient outcomes.

Research is a cornerstone of our division. UAB Nephrology has long been at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries in kidney biology, immunology, hypertension, acute kidney injury, end stage kidney disease, kidney transplantation and outcomes research. Our investigators lead and collaborate on NIH-funded studies and clinical trials that are advancing the understanding and treatment of kidney disease. Through strong collaborations across campus—including with the UAB-University of California at San Diego George O’Brien Center for Acute Kidney Injury Research and the Nephrology Research Training Center—we are shaping the future of advancing nephrology science.

We are deeply committed to educating and mentoring the next generation of nephrologists, scientists, and health professionals. Our ACGME-accredited nephrology fellowship program offers comprehensive clinical and research training in a supportive, collegial environment. We also offer specialized pathways in transplant nephrology, interventional nephrology, and glomerular disease, as well as opportunities for advanced research training through our NIH-U2C/TL1 program. Our faculty are dedicated educators who strive to inspire inquiry and curiosity, creativity, leadership, and lifelong learning.

Whether you are a prospective fellow, clinician, researcher, trainee, collaborator, or patient, we invite you to explore our programs and discover what makes UAB Nephrology a vibrant and impactful place to work, learn, and receive care.

Thank you for your interest in our division. We welcome you to connect with us and be part of our mission to advance kidney health through innovation, discovery, and compassionate clinical care.

Sincerely,
