Mira Al-Jaberi
Mira was born and raised in Amman, Jordan. She earned her medical degree from the University of Jordan and is excited to begin her residency in the Internal Medicine/Medical Genetics Program. She has various interests within the field, including genetics, hematology-oncology, and cardiology. Mira looks forward to her journey at UAB and is eager to see what this experience will bring. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, trying new foods and recipes, and being with her family.

Jad Allam
Jad was born in Damascus, Syria, but he grew up in Lebanon, where he pursued his medical education at the American University of Beirut. He later completed a two-year research fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he developed a passion for hepatology. Jad is excited to pursue an academic career specializing in liver disease and is thrilled to be joining UAB to begin his clinical training. Outside of medicine, Jad enjoys reading and watching historical documentaries. He is also an avid skier and pickleball player.

Lily Boothe
Lily is proud to be a native of Louisiana. She earned her undergraduate degree at Franciscan University (FranU) in Baton Rouge and then attended medical school at LSU Health in Shreveport. Although she is excited to now call Alabama home, she remains a devoted LSU fan (Geaux Tigers!).
Lily is interested in pursuing a fellowship in hematology/oncology and palliative care, and she hopes to further explore her interests in global health. In her free time, she is working toward her New Year's resolution of walking 50 miles and reading one book each month. She enjoys wine, thrift shopping, and watching sports with her husband and cat. -
Ned Boyer
Ned is a lifelong resident of Alabama, having been born and raised in Huntsville. He attended Auburn University before completing medical school at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He is excited to include Birmingham in his journey as he trains at UAB. Ned hopes to pursue an academic career in either interventional cardiology or pulmonary/critical care. In his free time, he enjoys staying active, playing video games, and he has recently developed a passion for sourdough baking.

Benjamin Cadle
Benjamin grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where he completed both his undergraduate studies and medical school. He has always been a fan of the Louisville Cardinals and hopes to see them win another national championship someday. He is excited to train at UAB and plans to pursue a career in hematology-oncology. In his free time, he enjoys attending Jason Isbell concerts with his wonderful wife, Sydney, and spending quality time with their adorable baby boy, Elliott.

James "Harris" Calhoun
Harris was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan. After spending a year working as a biomedical engineer, he returned to Georgia to attend medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. He is looking forward to continuing his training in Birmingham and plans to pursue an academic career, with a particular interest in specializing in cardiology. In his spare time, Harris enjoys watching his Michigan Wolverines, exploring local restaurants and breweries, and hiking.

Jackson Carlyle
Jackson was born in Huntersville, NC, but he spent his high school years in Spanish Fort, AL. He has interests in both medicine and ministry, which led him to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he studied Biology. During his summers, he worked with growing church plants in Boston, MA. Through these experiences, Jackson discovered that one of the most fulfilling ways to serve others is through healthcare delivery. He earned his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn and is honored to return to UAB to continue his training. While he is currently undecided, his clinical interests include critical care, cardiology, and general internal medicine. Outside the hospital, you can usually find Jackson and his wife, Gracie, enjoying a walk in a local park, trying out a new coffee shop, or playing pickleball.

Ming-Li (Estella) Chen
Ming-Li, who is known as Estella, was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. She attended Chung Shan Medical University in Taichung, where she developed a strong interest in internal medicine and epidemiology. This passion motivated her to pursue graduate and postdoctoral research training in the United States after graduation. Her academic interests focus on general cardiology and molecular epidemiology. Estella is excited to pursue a career in academic medicine through the ABIM Research Pathway at UAB. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, spending quality time with family in North Carolina and California, and exploring new places and cultures through travel.

Parker Cobbs
Parker grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!). Afterward, she returned to Birmingham to attend medical school at UAB, where she is excited to continue her residency and serve her home state throughout her training. While she is uncertain about her future academic career, Parker has a strong interest in general internal medicine, cardiology, and medical education. In her free time, she enjoys sharing her passion for the Birmingham food scene with friends and family, traveling, running, and cheering on the Crimson Tide!

Garrett Coleman
Garrett was born in Houston and raised in Lufkin, an East Texas town. He completed his undergraduate studies at Baylor University in Waco and then attended medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Garrett is excited to be completing his internal medicine residency training at UAB. Although he is still exploring options for his future career, he is passionate about global and community health, general internal medicine, and gastroenterology and hepatology. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, which includes snow skiing and scuba diving. He also loves all college sports, especially Baylor, and spending time with his wife and their dog, Nash.

Jianjie (Violet) Dong
Violet grew up in Changsha, China, and attended medical school at Xi'an Jiaotong University College of Medicine. She has spent the past three years as a postdoctoral researcher at Scripps Research in San Diego, where she studied the roles of post-transcriptional and post-translational regulation in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Violet is excited to pursue her cardiology training at UAB. In her free time, she enjoys playing long games of fetch with her energetic, larger-than-average Maltipoo, as well as staying active with her husband and friends.

Madikay Faal
Madikay was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. As a teenager, he and his family moved to West Africa. After completing high school there, he earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of West Florida. He then attended Florida State University for medical school and is excited to continue his training at UAB. Madikay believes that patient care begins with a strong human connection, and although he is still deciding on his specialization, he looks forward to exploring a career in outpatient medicine. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys reading, exploring nature trails, and supporting Florida State University's football team, the Seminoles.

Shereen Farooq
Shereen was born in New Jersey but grew up in a small town in southern Georgia. She attended undergraduate school at Georgia Tech and took a gap year before starting medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, Athens campus. Shereen intends to pursue a career in hematology/oncology but remains open to all possibilities. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and trying new restaurants.

Morgan Ford
Morgan was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Although she grew up in West Tennessee, she moved to East Tennessee to attend college at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She decided to return to Memphis for medical school to be closer to her family. Morgan is extremely excited to experience everything that Birmingham has to offer, both in and out of the hospital! She is currently interested in pursuing a fellowship in gastroenterology. In her free time, she enjoys walking her dog, Ollie, weight lifting, reading books, listening to podcasts, and enjoying any activities that involve sunshine.

William (Buddy) Gardner
Buddy grew up in Birmingham and went on to attend Clemson University, where he majored in chemistry and minored in music. He then went to medical school in Greenville, SC, but he is excited to return to Alabama for his residency at UAB. Although he hasn’t completely settled on a specific career path yet, he is interested in cardiology, geriatrics, or hospital medicine. Outside of the hospital, Buddy enjoys a variety of indoor and outdoor hobbies. He plays the piano and reads frequently, and he also likes spending time outdoors playing golf or tennis.

Michelle George
Michelle is originally from the suburbs of Atlanta but has spent much of her life in Augusta, Georgia. She completed her bachelor's degree at Augusta University and then attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. Michelle is drawn to the breadth and versatility of general internal medicine and is particularly passionate about global health and caring for underserved populations. Outside of her medical career, she enjoys dancing, crafting, traveling, and discovering hidden culinary gems, especially sweet treats!

Ryan Harpenau
Ryan was born and raised in Russellville, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas for his undergraduate studies and remained close to home for medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock. He is excited to be moving to Birmingham for his internal medicine residency and is particularly interested in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with the intention of building a career in academic medicine. Outside the hospital, Ryan enjoys outdoor activities, watching Arkansas Razorback sports, and spending time with friends and family.

Luke High
Luke was born in El Paso, Texas, but he grew up in Petal, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Biochemistry and went on to medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Luke is excited to move to Birmingham and explore the city as he begins his residency at UAB. His medical interests include cardiology and medical education. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf or pickleball and spending time with friends and family.

William Hixon
William is originally from Alabama and is excited to bring his medical training back to Birmingham to serve the community he calls home. His passion for internal medicine stems from a deep curiosity about human physiology and a desire to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Throughout medical school, William sought opportunities to engage with underserved populations, volunteering at free clinics and assisting with hospice care. He looks forward to continuing this commitment during his residency at UAB, where he aims to grow as a clinician, educator, and advocate for patients.

Kaleb Johnston
Kaleb hails from Rome, a small town in northwest Georgia. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, graduating in 2021, and then earned his medical degree from Mercer University. Kaleb has a strong interest in pursuing a career in cardiology, but he is also passionate about academic general internal medicine and pulmonary/critical care.
Outside of his medical pursuits, Kaleb is an avid football fan. Most weekends, you'll find him switching between NFL and college games or focusing on his fantasy football teams. Additionally, he is a self-proclaimed foodie and is excited to explore the vibrant culinary scene in Birmingham. Kaleb is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to grow both professionally at UAB and personally as he builds a life with his family in Birmingham.

Cole Keenum
Cole grew up in Woodstock, Georgia, as the son of a pharmacist and a nurse. He earned his undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Georgia Tech before attending the Medical College of Georgia for medical school, where he met his now-wife on the first day of classes. He is very excited to begin his internal medicine residency at UAB, where his wife, Olivia, will also be training as a neurology resident. His professional interests include hematology-oncology, healthcare policy, and medical missions. Outside of medicine, he enjoys weightlifting, cooking, and playing video games with friends and family.

Sheena Khan
Sheena was born at UAB in Birmingham and grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. She earned her undergraduate degrees in Health & Society and Spanish from Southern Methodist University, followed by a master's degree in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University. After spending some time out of state, she was excited to return to UAB for medical school and to complete her residency. She is interested in pursuing a career in cardiology or general internal medicine, as well as in medical education. In her free time, Sheena enjoys watching soccer, painting, and spending time with friends and family.

Peter grew up in Spanish Fort, Alabama, and completed both his undergraduate and medical education within the state. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Alabama and then attended the University of South Alabama's Whiddon College of Medicine for medical school. Currently, he is in Birmingham for his residency, where he is enthusiastic about continuing his training in Internal Medicine at UAB. He has a particular interest in primary care and medical education. Outside of the hospital, Peter enjoys trying new restaurants, taking weekend trips to the beach, cheering on the Crimson Tide, and spending time with his golden retriever, Gumbo.

Anna was born in Columbus, Georgia, and raised in Trussville, Alabama. She attended Auburn University, where she earned a degree in Biochemistry. After graduating, Anna worked as a medical assistant at an OB-GYN practice for a year before beginning medical school at UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham). She is excited to continue her residency training at UAB in Birmingham. Anna plans to pursue a career in academic medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys antique shopping and spending time with her family, as well as her adorable dog, Maggie!

Taylor was born and raised in Beaufort, South Carolina. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina before earning her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. Taylor is excited to continue her medical journey at UAB, where she plans to pursue a fellowship in gastroenterology. Outside of her medical career, she enjoys marathon running, spending time with her husband, Jack, and their golden retriever, Junebug, as well as watching Gamecock football.

Hunter was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Alabama and went on to attend medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Hunter is excited to return to Alabama to continue his medical training at UAB. His professional interests include cardiology, clinical research, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, and their dog, Miss Terry. He also loves watching Alabama sports and Premier League soccer, cooking, and exploring the vibrant food scene in Birmingham.

Kirsten grew up in the small town of Rosepine, Louisiana. She moved to Shreveport to complete her undergraduate studies at Centenary College of Louisiana and continued her education in medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Now, she is excited to call Birmingham home as she pursues her residency training at UAB. While she is particularly interested in specializing in hematology/oncology, she looks forward to exploring all that internal medicine has to offer. Outside of her medical pursuits, Kirsten enjoys running, reading, attending live music events, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.

Paige McGuire
Paige was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and grew up in Claremore. She earned her undergraduate degrees in Biology and Communication Disorders at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and then obtained her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Paige is excited to join the UAB residency program and explore her new city. She is interested in academic general medicine but is open to any specialty during her training. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants with friends, spending time outdoors, and cuddling with her cat, Millie.

Vinay Mehta
Vinay is from Johns Creek, Georgia, which is about 45 minutes north of Atlanta. He attended Augusta University for his undergraduate studies and then continued his education at the Medical College of Georgia. Vinay and his fiancée, Nirali, who is a psychiatry resident, successfully couples-matched at UAB, and they are both excited to begin their residency training in Birmingham. After completing his internal medicine residency, Vinay plans to pursue a career in cardiology. In his free time, he enjoys watching Atlanta sports teams (even though they often break his heart), playing the electric guitar, and exploring the city with his fiancée.

Deepa was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She attended Rice University for her undergraduate studies and completed the clinical portion of medical school at Texas A&M College of Medicine. She is excited to leave home to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Deepa plans to pursue a career as either a hospitalist or an endocrinologist. In her spare time, she enjoys karaoke, attending comedy shows, and spending time with animals. Deepa is thrilled about the opportunity to work with the faculty, her co-residents, and patients at UAB!

Gnyata was born in India but grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of South Alabama before attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for medical school. She is excited to continue her residency training at UAB. Her academic interests include general internal medicine, cardiology, and hematology/oncology. In her free time, Gnyata enjoys spending time with friends and family, running on the Rotary Trail, trying new restaurants, and traveling.

Vraj was born and raised in Rome, Georgia. He attended Emory University, where he studied Biology and played on the men's golf team. Afterward, he went to the Medical College of Georgia for medical school, where he nurtured his passions for leadership, mentorship, and cardiology. Vraj was attracted to UAB for its culture of clinical excellence and humility, and he is excited to call Birmingham home. During his residency, he looks forward to exploring Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and developing his interest in medical education. In the long term, he is considering a career in cardiology. Outside of the hospital, you can find him cheering for Atlanta sports teams (especially the Braves), playing golf or pickleball, working out at the gym, or caring for his beloved bonsai plant.

Jessica was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. Following in her mother's footsteps, she attended the University of South Carolina for her undergraduate studies. A huge Gamecock fan, she enjoyed her time in Columbia so much that she decided to stay there for medical school. Currently, she is interested in pursuing a fellowship in cardiology but remains open-minded and loves exploring all that internal medicine and its subspecialties have to offer. In her free time, Jessica enjoys playing pickleball, running, learning to play golf, baking while watching "The Great British Baking Show," reading, and cheering on the Gamecocks!

Jared Ridgeway
Jared grew up in Arab, Alabama. His father was a firefighter, and his mother worked with the military. As a teenager, he traveled around the world, which nurtured his fascination with different cultures and nature. In high school, he developed a passion for medicine by participating in medical missions to Guatemala. He attended the University of South Alabama for his undergraduate degree and then went to UAB for medical school. Now, he is excited to continue his residency training at UAB and intends to pursue a career in cardiology, with hopes of specializing in electrophysiology. In addition to his medical pursuits, Jared enjoys traveling—especially trying new foods—along with alpine hiking, building and driving Jeeps, and reading epic novels.

Brynn Seaton
Brynn was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (Go Vols!) for her undergraduate degree and then traveled across the state to Memphis for medical school. She is very excited to train in Birmingham and serve the community and her patients. After completing her residency, she plans to pursue a career as an academic hospitalist. In her spare time, Brynn devotes herself entirely to her Corgi, Clementine. She also enjoys reading, traveling, and watching UT sports.

Tanner is originally from Symsonia, Kentucky. He spent his college years playing baseball in Illinois and Arkansas before returning to Kentucky to attend medical school. Tanner earned his degree in Exercise Science from Harding University and worked as a nurse technician for two years before pursuing a career in medicine. Along with his wife, Alex, and their dog, Mila, Tanner is excited to explore all that Birmingham has to offer. They look forward to discovering local restaurants, enjoying the outdoors, and watching some pickleball games in their free time.

Bethany was raised in Phil Campbell, Alabama, and chose to stay close to home for college by attending the University of North Alabama. She then earned a master's degree at the University of Alabama before going to medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Passionate about patient-centered care, she is excited to continue her training at UAB, where she looks forward to enhancing her clinical skills and growing both personally and professionally. She is considering a career in general internal medicine or pulmonary/critical care. Outside of medicine, she enjoys taking care of her houseplants and spending time with her family.

Peyton was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and raised in the nearby rural town of Amory. He played mellophone for the Bulldogs while attending Mississippi State University for his undergraduate studies. Later, he moved south to the University of Mississippi Medical Center to continue his medical training. With family across northern Alabama and northeastern Mississippi, Peyton is excited to relocate closer to home and serve Birmingham alongside his wonderful wife, Clarice, who is a general surgery resident at UAB. He has a strong interest in cardiology and medical education, and he is passionate about providing care to underserved populations. In his spare time, Peyton enjoys running, reading, playing music, and spending time with friends and family.
