Shetty Reports Female Recipients of LVAD Have Worse Clinical Outcomes than Male Counterparts
Cardiovascular Disease fellow, Naman Shetty, M.D.In a study published in Circulation: Heart Failure, Cardiovascular Disease research fellow Naman Shetty, M.D., and colleagues investigated outcomes in end-stage heart failure patients who received a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Experts found that women with an LVAD had a higher risk of mortality, lower likelihood of heart transplantation, and a higher rate of adverse events compared to their male counterparts.

Harada Named Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives, Medical Education

Caroline Harada, M.D., Associate Professor in the UAB Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care, has been appointed as the new Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives, Medical Education. Dr. Harada brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles, including serving as Assistant Dean for Community-Engaged Scholarship, spearheading the Learning Communities program, and providing leadership in the Office of Service Learning. In her new position, Dr. Harada will leverage her expertise to lead strategic projects aimed at enhancing the quality of medical education at the Heersink School of Medicine.
