Congratulations to five residents who each won a C. Glenn Cobbs Book Award for best history and physical write-ups at the Birmingham VA Medical Center: Brent Bermingham, MD; Zachary Doegg, MD; Jonathan Kalehoff, MD; Lauren Pacheco, MD; and Stacey Watkins, MD.

‘Tis the Season for Service! DOM sent volunteers again this year to help YWCA Central Alabama prepare for Santa’s Workshop. This special outreach enables children to meet Santa and make gifts that they can give to loved ones, and it allows their caregivers to "shop" for presents to give to their children. It’s a terrific way to bring holiday cheer to families living in area shelters.

The Department is proud to have 7 participants enrolled in the UAB Healthcare Leadership Academy Class of 2016, an intensive professional development experience designed to develop future leaders of the UAB academic health center.

Two faculty from the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology have been honored by the American College of Rheumatology for their contributions to research. John Mountz, MD, PhD, was named the 2016 ACR Distinguished Basic Investigator, and Jasvinder Singh, MD, was named the 2016 ACR Henry Kunkel Young Investigator.

More than 20 faculty and staff presented the annual State of the Department of Medicine on Wednesday. The address focused on our five strategic priorities, with success stories from each area: Patient Care, Education, Research, Sustainability, and Culture.
