Together with medical students, they helped sort produce into bags and deliver them to local low-income independent living facilities for the elderly.
7th Annual RIME Week Celebrates Medical Education
Stephen Stuart, MDResearch and Innovations in Medical Education (RIME) Week was a huge success last week. The conference, now in its seventh year, drew more than 100 faculty and fellows to workshops to enhance their med-ed skills and boasted 50 dynamic poster presentations.
German Donor Finally Meets BMT Patient

She wound up being the one person in 24 million to be the perfect match Jimmy Roberson needed to save his life. Now, almost three years after his transplant via the UAB Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, Roberson invited Franke to visit him in the United States. Governor Tours Comprehensive Cancer Center

Ivey; President Ray Watts, MD; SOM Dean Selwyn Vickers, MDAlabama Governor Kay Ivey visited campus and met our new UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Michael Birrer, MD, PhD (Professor, Hematology and Oncology) an expert in the early detection and treatment of gynecologic cancers who came to UAB from Massachusetts General Hospital in August 2017. Together with UAB and UAB Medicine leaders, Governor Ivey toured the Center and Advanced Imaging Facility, which houses the cyclotron and other state of the art equipment.

Several DOM faculty and trainees participated in Equal Access Birmingham “Heart + Sole 5K and Fun Run" last Saturday. The race raised funds for EAB, the free health clinic which is operated by UAB medical students which was created in 2005 to both improve healthcare access for underserved populations in the Birmingham area and provide UAB medical students with service learning experiences. Student volunteers see approximately 400 patients per year at the EAB Clinic.
