COERE team celebrates Winter recipient of the DOM STAR Award for Staff
Excellence, Madeline Gibson, MPH (sixth from left). The Department of Medicine is pleased to recognize Madeline Gibson, MPH, deputy director of the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE) in the Division of Infectious Diseases, as the Winter 2025 recipient of the DOM STAR Award for Staff Excellence.
Known for her professional integrity, collaborative spirit and proactive drive to excel, Gibson has made invaluable contributions to COERE. As deputy director, she manages and supervises a team while recognizing individual strengths and fostering a unified, high-performing group.
Gibson also serves as a point of contact for investigators, research staff and trainees across five divisions within the Department of Medicine. “She has shown the utmost professionalism and respect for all while navigating complex interprofessional dynamics,” said COERE Director Mike Mugavero, M.D.
Most notably, in July, COERE received an abrupt notice from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality that funding for a program supporting nine fellows would be discontinued. Gibson coordinated calls, emails and outreach with key leadership, successfully securing funding to ensure all nine fellows could complete their yearlong training.
Gibson consistently seeks opportunities to support COERE and its mission. In addition to her core responsibilities, she supports early-career faculty in preparing their first NIH R-series submissions, has served as principal investigator for an R13 conference grant, hosted travel award trainees visiting UAB and recently first-authored a publication accepted by the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science.
Thank you, Madeline, for more than a decade of unwavering commitment, collaborative spirit and outstanding service to the Department of Medicine.
We are pleased to honor you as the Winter 2025 DOM STAR Award recipient for Staff Excellence.
