  • GEARs, “Gathering to Enrich and Advance Research” is a monthly series designed as a dynamic and inclusive space to discuss, share, and develop new, evolving, and planned research projects within and adjacent to the COERE community.

GEARs provides a platform for BDB 8 and COERE members, as well as those connected to these communities—across all career stages, including students, trainees, staff, and both junior and senior investigators, to present their work at any point in its development. Whether seeking feedback, refining presentation skills, or introducing research to a broader audience, participants are encouraged to engage in a way that supports their growth and success.

The goal of GEARs is to build community and foster collaboration by encouraging open discussion in a low-stress, supportive, and engaging environment. Sessions will typically feature one to three presenters and may include topics such as preliminary findings (whether exciting or unclear), data challenges, project updates, or broader research overviews.

  • Sessions are held on the third Wednesday of each month from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in BDB 823 (Stu Frank Conference Room). We will actively invite presentation ideas from across BDB8 and COERE, and a recurring calendar invitation will follow.

  • To reserve your presentation date, please email Megan Nordberg at mnordberg@uabmc.edu
Please let us know if you have any questions or additional thoughts, and we look forward to hearing about everyone’s work!
