The Faculty Senate appoints representatives on select university-wide committees, for the purpose of representing the interests and concerns of faculty and the Faculty Senate and to stay abreast of the activities and decisions being made. A Faculty Senate member or a faculty member is appointed by the Faculty Senate on the following University Committees (see table below, includes email links for contacting Faculty/Senate Representatives). At the discretion of the Chair of the Faculty Senate, he/she may opt to delegate the selection of a faculty-representative, to the chair of the committee.

These University committees were selected for Faculty Senate representation based on the following criteria:

  • Committee has an enterprise-wide mission;
  • Supports and aligns with UAB’s strategic plan;
  • Decisions affect the faculty experience university-wide; and
  • Is either advisory or has decision-making authority.

The Faculty Senate also requests faculty representation for other selected university committees that do not meet the criteria above; please contact the Faculty Senate Office at (205) 934-6619 to request a list of these additional university committees. Please note that information regarding university committees and Faculty Senate Representatives is in continuous flux. The Provost Office manages a listing of all university-wide committees; this list is available on the Provost website.

Reports

The representatives on these committees report to the Senate. Important report information is recorded in the monthly Faculty Senate meeting minutes. Additionally, a monthly compilation of reports can be found on the Faculty Senate’s SharePoint Documents page; select the "Reports" tab.
